Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding (NUS) is
a leading higher educational institution in Ukraine which trains specialists
for shipbuilding and related industries and the national economy in general.
The Industrial Technical School was established on July
16th, 1920 on the basis of the Secondary Mechanical Technical Vocational
School. It was considered a higher educational institution and its graduates
got the qualification of an engineer. Later it became Nikolaev Shipbuilding
Institute (NSI).
NSI got the fourth level of accreditation, university status
and name of Admiral Makarov Ukrainian State Maritime Technical University in
1994 according to the Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. On
March, 2004 it gained the status of the National University of Shipbuilding.
This gave the chance to define its educational content, structure and to
develop its own curricula.
The University was authorized to create new educational and
scientific institutions of different types within its structure, to plan and
develop its own scientific and fundamental research.
This educational establishment has prepared more than 50
thousand specialists for the national and foreign shipbuilding.
Regulations of the foreign citizens admission to NUS.
To begin their studies in the university foreign citizens must
do a preliminary course. It lasts for 10 months, at the end of which they have
to pass an exam and according to its results they get a certificate which
becomes their permit to enter the University.
To receive an invitation for studying in Ukraine, which
gives a right to foreign citizens to enter the Ukrainian territory for a period
from 15 August till 15 November, it is
necessary to write a letter of application,
by fax or e-mail to a Rector/President of the University with an appropriate request
and to send copies of the following documents to the Department of International Cooperation
:
- passport;
- medical “No HIV/AIDS Certificate”;
- secondary school graduation
certificate;
Upon the arrival it is necessary to have the following validate
documents:
- application form;
- validate copy of the educational level certificate with the specified subjects and the received grades/credits;
- medical “No HIV/AIDS Certificate”;
- validate medical health certificate, verified by the official health protection body, which proves the STUDENT’S
health ability to stay and study in Ukraine, issued no later than two months before the arrival in Ukraine;
- validate copy of the birth
certificate;
- insurance
which covers the emergency medical service;
- 8 photos with size 6×4 cm;
As a result of admission to the University an “International
Student Contract” must be signed.
Foreign citizens who are studying in other universities of
Ukraine can be transferred to the National University of Shipbuilding as well. This
procedure requires the following documents:
- a preliminary course graduation certificate;
- academic certificate;
- written permission of a Rector/President of the University,
where the international student has been studying, that confirms his/her transfer
to NUS.
Tuition fees for one year of studies:
- preliminary course – 1300 US dollars;
- bachelor’s degree – 1800 US dollars, master's
degree – 1900 US dollars;
- postgraduate course – 2500 US dollars;
- practical training course– 500 US dollars per
month.
The university hostel offers comfortable double and triple
rooms gives for its foreign students. The cost for one person is 40 US dollars
per month.
